Hildegun Nilsson Varhelyi
As a working professional in the field of landscape architecture and graphic design I am currently holding a part time position as adjunct lecturer at the Department of Urban and Rural Development, where I am involved in teaching and lecturing at the Landscape Architecture Programme. The design process, including site analysis and information design are the main topics covered in my teaching as well as contributing at examinations and supervising and examining master students.

Presentation

My main interest is design and communication with emphasis on the ecological and topographical conditions of architecture. The interface between visitors and nature in nature reserves and national parks, as well as issues related to accessibility, integration and recreational value of periurban nature, has been a special interest since my graduation. Areas of expertise include plant composition for perennial and annual borders.

Background

Hildegun Nilsson Varhelyi is a landscape architect LAR / MSA and graphic designer –  Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Graphic Design and Illustration at University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, Stockholm (graduation 1985), Master of Science (MSc) in Landscape Architecture at Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (graduation year 2002), graduate of the Royal University College of Fine Arts, Department of Architecture, Stockholm (graduation year 2006).

 

From 1987 to 1998 Hildegun were a founding partner of the design studio Rififi, where she worked in marketing and brand strategy for retail companies like H&M and Pripps. Projects include the overall graphic profile for Kolmården Zoo, information campaigns for the National Public Health Institute and the design of several books.

 

After training as a landscape architect has Hildegun worked with traditional landscape project assignments where her skills in graphic communication has been useful, such as way finding, as well as exhibition design, visualizations and graphics for cimema and theater. In her role as a landscape architect Hildegun has worked with private and public spaces, including Humlegården and Tessinparken, the amusement park Gröna Lund, Munchenbryggeriet and Årstafältet. Since 2007 Hildegun is involved in the development and management of the City of Stockholm’s  annual planting scheme.
