Purabi Bose

I am an Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer in Forest Policy in the Faculty of Forest Sciences, based in Alnarp, my humble goal is to work towards an equitable field for multi-stakeholders in forested landscapes. 

Course Leader SG0277 a new International MSc Euroforester course: Global Forests and Land-use Decisions, 7.5 ECTS, Dec 2022-Jan 2023.

This course syllabus design integrates renowned global experts from diverse disciplines and geographical and institutional setups. Course Leader PFS0184 a new International Ph.D. course: Communicating Forests and Land-Use Research in Popular Science, 4 ECTS (Nov'22-Jan'23).

The course aims to enhance the competence of Ph.D. candidates to creatively use relevant communication and select tools print, audio-visual, and multi-media to convey their forests and land-use science to a diverse audience. Read the blog related to the course: Popular science communication forest research

A bottom-up approach by engaging local communities in framing the research agenda is what I strive for in all my scientific work. 

By interlinking human rights dimensions to forests, land tenure reforms, commons, forest food, land-use change, and climate, I strategically use social science and political ecology research in examining the complexities of implementation of forest policy to recognize access-rights, citizenship, and 'forest governmentality'. 

My scientific focus on a rights-based approach using a diverse range of strategic creative multi-media communication outputs, research ethics, and interdisciplinary sciences aim to enhance the societal relevance of research. Collaborative case studies and empirical qualitative studies through strategic multi-stakeholder partnerships are promoted for meaningful forest policy dialogue and sustainable practices.

To SLU, I bring interdisciplinary academic and evidence-based empirical fieldwork expertise on issues related to collective forest and land tenure rights, climate change, food and nutrition security in countries from Latin America, East Africa, and South and Southeast Asia.

Communicating Forest and People Science

I ventured to become a filmmaker to creatively communicate scientific stories by amplifying the voices of the forest-dependent Indigenous peoples'. As a producer and director, my films have been self-financed through an initiative 'Landing Together'.
