Stefan Granlund

Presentation

I am a PhD Student in Rural Development at the Department of Urban and Rural Development at SLU. 

My research project looks at emerging welfare states in low and middle income countries, primarily South Africa. I am studying unconditional cash transfers such as social pensions and child support grants, their impact on rural livelihoods and what it means for people living in poverty in rural areas, both from a material and social/relational perspective. My interests involves issues such as the politics of social protection, gender equality, economic and social rights, and social and distributive justice theories.
