Presentation
I am associate professor at the Department of Aquatic Sciences and Assessment and head of the Ecology and Biodiversity Division.
My favourite research objects are phytoplankton and their role in aquatic food webs. I would like to develop methods for phytoplankton identification with DNA methods and adapt for use in large scale monitoring. I work closely to the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management and develop assessment methods for water management.
I have a large Focus on Mälaren, in a collaboration with Lake Mälaren's water conservation association, to facilitate the exchange between research and social interests around the lake.
Teaching
Mainly on two courses (in Swedish): Energi och miljö (Energy and the Environment) and Energisystemens miljöpåverkan (Environmental Impacts of Energy Systems for civil engineer students)
I regularly supervise bachelor and master projects, usually with focus on Lake Mälaren. Some examples are:
- Maja Sellergen. 2022. Aluminiumbehandling som sjörestaureringsåtgärd i Stora och Lilla Ullfjärden (pdf)
- Elin Flodin. 2021. Vid vilka förhållanden frodas kvävefixerande cyanobakterier i Mälaren? (pdf)
- Jonas Beretta-Piccoli. 2020. The floating menace: Evaluation of methods to eradicate Nymphoides peltata in Lake Mälaren (pdf)
- Hanna Sjulgård. 2018.
Research
Current reserach projects :
- VR-project: Global change depletes pelagic food webs in northern lakes (Web4Food)
Environmental analysis
I was coordinator for the Lakes and watercourses programme 2009-2021. Now, my contribution is mainly via environmental monitoring projects such as Focus on Mälaren and IKEU (Integrated Studies of the Effects of Liming Acidified Waters).
I also lead the laboratory that analyzes phytoplankton, zooplankton, benthic fauna, algae and other aquatic plants for mainly national monitoring.
