The Swedish food strategy launched

Published: 30 January 2017

After a long wait, the Swedish Government, the Left Party and the Alliance parties have agreed on long-term objectives in the field of food and the Government has presented its long-awaited food strategy today.

-All of us who have been eagerly awaiting it are happy to have this cornerstone of the food sector in place. It will make it so much easier for us here at SLU and for other actors in the food business to continue our work on developing cooperation, says Erik Fahlbeck, Pro Vice-Chancellor for External Cooperation at SLU, in his blog at Rektorsbloggen

The food strategy encompasses the entire food production chain, from primary production to food industry, exports, trade, consumer, public sector consumption, restaurants and culinary experiences. The strategy has its base in primary production, but all sections of the food production chain are important and necessary for creating a long-term strategy that provides jobs and sustainable growth throughout the country.

-At SLU, we can contribute in a number of areas, not least when it comes to absorbing new knowledge and transforming it into e.g. new production methods, innovative processing, new business models and new forms for disseminating knowledge and providing skills and entrepreneurial know-how in the sector, says Erik Fahlbeck.
