New collaboration between SLU and Kazakh National University in Kazakhstan

An agreement on future collaboration has been signed by the Department of Molecular Sciences at SLU and the Kazakh National University in Kazakhstan. The aim of this collaboration is to promote internationalisation in both research and teaching, especially at master's and PhD student level.

His Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Dr. Dastan Yeleukenov, visited SLU in Uppsala on the 15th of September 2017 and met with officials and researchers from SLU. The aim of the visit was to discuss and explore possibilities for further collaboration between the Republic of Kazakhstan and SLU.

Now a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with researchers at the Department of Molecular Sciences at SLU and the Kazakh National University.

Strong tradition in fossil fuels and biofuels

Kazakh National University has a strong tradition of research in environmental chemistry, biotechnology and catalytic convergence, especially fuel combustion - both fossil and biofuels. The aim of this future cooperation is to promote internationalization in both research and teaching, especially at the master's and PhD student level.

- SLU has recently been identified by Kazakhstan as a world-leading university. Now it is possible for students in Kazakhstan to apply for scholarships for studies abroad through the National Bolashak program. It may also be an entry to increase the number of students on SLU programs, says Vadim Kessler.

Present at the signing of the agreement were Professor Vadim Kessler, Head of Department at the Department of Molecular Sciences,  Kazakh National University Prorector Professor Tlekkabul Ramazanov, Professor Zayadan Bolatkhan, Dean for the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, Kazakh National University, Professor Serik Mokhanbetzhanov, Director of Research and Innovation Department, Kazakh National University,  Gulaim Seisenbaeva, researcher at the Department of Molecular Sciences and Dr. Zulfira Zikrina, Director of Kazakstan Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production.
