Jana Pickova awarded an honorary doctorate at Czech university

Published: 22 November 2018

Jana Pickova, Professor of Food Science at SLU with a focus on fish, has received an honorary doctorate at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Czech Republic.

The ceremony took place in the Ceremonial Hall of the Town Hall in České Budějovice, a town located 150 kilometers south of Prague. The title was awarded in recognition of nearly twenty years of active collaboration, which has resulted in the establishment of a department of aquaculture and fish quality at the university.

"I have supervised doctoral students and hosted postdoctoral students from the university here at SLU," says Jana Pickova. "Our extensive cooperation has also led to patenting of feeds and a brand."

Jana Pickova was born in Prague but moved to Sweden when she was fourteen years old. She received a PhD at SLU's then Department of Food Sciences in 1998, and has since then led numerous projects about the effects of feeds on animal metabolism and well-being, as well as on the fat quality of animal food products. Her main focus has been on fish. In 2008 she was appointed Professor of Food Science at SLU.
