SLU's Agricultural Operations at the Ultuna estate have been nominated "Climate Farmer of the Year", an award set up by Svenskt Sigill and the White Guide Green.

Agricultural Operations at SLU, part of the Division of Real Estate Management, have been environmentally certified according to ISO 14001 since 2006. Their systematic work on reducing the environmental and climate impact of their operations has now received attention as the Ultuna estate, managed by Jarl Ryberg, is one of seven farms nominated for "Climate Farmer of the Year". This is a new award, set up by Svenskt Sigill and the White Guide Green to recognise farmers who are at the forefront of combatting climate change. A jury will choose a winner in April.

The criteria for being nominated include being a primary producer in Sweden and purposefully strive to reduce the climate impact of your operations. You need to be top of the class in Sweden when it comes to nitrogen efficiency, and energy use should be low-carbon.

- We are happy and proud to be nominated and have high hopes that we are competitive enough for SLU to win this award, says Head of Agricultural Operations Peter Thorén.
