SLU's global internal network discussed intercultural competence

Published: 26 October 2020

On 15 October SLU's internal global network had their autumn meeting, this time focusing on intercultural competence. Anyone employed or a PhD student at SLU can join the global network, as long as you are interested in global development and collaboration with low-income countries – and you want to connect with others who are as well.

SLU's internal global network has been up and running since spring 2019, and the aim is to facilitate collaborations between scientists - hopefully even between disciplines. The network hosts seminars, workshops and an online platform to share resources and general information. Agendas and presentations from previous meetings can be found on the global network Canvas page, a couple of examples of topics are “How to increase impact from your project” and “Anti corruption”.

With the topic for this meeting being “Intercultural competence: A key to successful international partnerships”, the network was joined by Natalie Jellinek from the Educational Development Unit at SLU, to discuss different ways of viewing culture and how it can affect scientific collaborations.  Understanding different cultures is crucial to ensure and facilitate efficient collaborations between countries and over disciplines. Participants got to discuss their own cultures and where given tools to understand and navigate other cultural expressions and expectations.

For next year, the same meeting frequency is planned, two meetings in the spring and one in autumn.

You can register for the network here.
