Last week, the first final of SLU Youth Institute took place, gathering a group of committed students, experts within food security and colleagues from World Food Prize Foundation.

Almost 300 high school students have, during the last months, been writing about a global challenge of their own choice. The global challenges were within the field of food security investigated from different angles.

For the first final, 19 students attended and got an afternoon filled with inspiration, feedback on their theses and a chance to network with both experts and other students.

– We want to create commitment for agriculture, food production and sustainable development. It is also important to create a forum where students can propose their solutions and be listened at by experts within the field, says Kristina Karlsson Green, coordinator at SLU Youth Institute to Jordbruksaktuellt.

The second final will be held 6 May. After the finals some of the students will get a chance to attend the grand final at the Global Youth Institute in the US, where they will meet students from other Youth Institutes, World Food Prize laurates and other experts.
