Applying for courses next semester

Page reviewed:  25/06/2026

All programme students must apply for courses for the next semester.

1. Find out which courses to apply for

I am enrolled in a degree programme

In the programme syllabus, you can see the courses that are included.

At the bottom of the programme page, this year’s courses are listed in expandable menus, such as ‘Programme courses for students admitted in autumn 2026’. Click on a course to view the syllabus and application code.

I want to take freestanding courses, or replace one or more courses in my programme

You can find all courses using SLU’s course search tool.

You can search for entry requirements, application codes and other course information. You can also filter your search by subject, level, start date and location, for example.

If you are taking freestanding courses, or want to take courses outside your degree programme, use the ‘Freestanding courses’ search filter.

If you wish to replace a course within your programme with a freestanding course, make sure that:

  • you still meet the requirements for the degree(s) you plan to complete.
  • you meet the entry requirements for the upcoming courses in your programme.
  • the course content does not overlap with other courses on in your programme.
  • If you are required to pay tuition fees, you may replace up to 30 credits of programme courses with freestanding SLU courses without affecting your programme fees. If you wish to take more than 30 credits of freestanding courses outside your programme, you will need to pay tuition fees for those courses separately. Please contact tuitionfees@slu.se for further information.

2. Apply through universityadmissions.se

Log in to universityadmissions.se using your student account, whether you are applying for programme courses or freestanding courses. Select University account → Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and log in.

Please check that you meet the entry requirements for the courses you wish to take. The entry requirements are listed in each course syllabus.

On the How to apply page, you can find more information about applying and late applications. You will be admitted to courses in the order you rank them. Read more on the Rank your selection page at universityadmissions.se.

Important things to remember before applying

  • Make sure that your top 30 credits cover the whole semester.
  • You can be admitted to a maximum of 45 credits per semester in the first admissions round.
  • You will be admitted to courses in the order you rank them, from top to bottom. Once you have been admitted to 45 credits, your remaining choices will be automatically cancelled.
  • You can apply for a maximum of 20 options per autumn or spring semester and a maximum of 12 for the summer semester.
You can change the order of your choices until the application deadline.
  • Fee-paying students who take more than 30 credits of freestanding courses outside their programme must pay tuition fees for those courses separately

3. Accept your offer

If you are admitted or placed on the waiting list after the first admissions round, you must accept your offer to keep it. If you do not wish to accept, you must decline it.

Follow the instructions in your admission results, on My Pages at universityadmissions.se.

Remember to check Key dates and deadlines!

Please note: You do not need to accept offers for summer courses.

4. Late applications open

If you miss the application deadline, you can apply late to most programmes and courses after the first admissions round. For the summer semester, late applications open immediately after the application deadline. We cannot guarantee that a course or programme will accept late applications. If a course or programme is open for late applications, it does not necessarily mean that places are still available.

Eligible late applicants are ranked by the date they applied, not by their merit rating. If several people apply on the same day, applicants will be selected at random.

Late applications are processed subject to availability, but we aim to process them before the course starts.

5. Register

You must register to secure your place on the course. You must register for the course to keep your place. Log in to Ladok Student using your student account. Under ‘Register’, you can see which courses are open for registration.

You must register for each course you want to take. You can register online from one week before the course starts.

If you are unable to register, it is usually for one of the following reasons:

  • The registration period has not yet opened or has already closed.
  • You are eligible subject to certain conditions. This means that you still need to fulfil one or more conditions before you can start the course.
  • If you are a fee-paying student, your tuition fees must be paid in full before you can register for your courses.
  • Self-registration is not available for thesis courses.
