Entry Requirements
Objectives
The objective of the course is for students to acquire knowledge of the different stages of the construction process, building materials and constructive design of buildings and premises for agricultural companies.
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
-Describe the planning process relating to erection of a building or premises connected with agriculture
-Apply the fundamental stages in the planning process, i.e. compile planning documents, carry out simple function analysis and sketch work, produce drawings (by hand or with the help of the computer) and prepare plans
-Describe and evaluate various building materials and construction systems with reference to the stresses (mechanical and physical) that arise in farm buildings
-Describe and explain construction methods employed in erecting housing and other premises.
-Design simple building elements such as posts, pillars and beams and systems of these
-Apply basic calculation methods used in computer analysis
-Make a presentation of a building project.
Content
The course is mainly based on lectures, calculation exercises and study trips. The course also contains a project assignment, a number of smaller assignments and practicals.
The course covers the following main topics:
-Building materials science, particularly wood, concrete and construction steel
-Building types and construction systems
-Load analysis - external loads and forces
-Building construction technology – bearing frames, building statistics
-Design process according to BKR and JBR
-The building process and the stages in the planning work
-Project assignment - planning a building or other premises.
Examination Formats and Requirements for Passing the Course
Reporting of projects and written assignments. Requirements for examination:<br> Approved reporting of projects, approved assignments and active participation in compulsory parts of the course. - If a student fails a test, the examiner may give the student a supplementary assignment, provided this is possible and there is reason to do so. - If a student has been granted targeted study support because of a disability, the examiner has the right to offer the student an adapted test, or provide an alternative form of assessment. - If this course is discontinued, SLU will decide on transitional provisions for the examination of students admitted under this syllabus who have not yet been awarded a Pass grade. - For the assessment an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission.
