The equivalent of entrance requirements for acceptance onto the Diploma Programme in Agricultural and Rural Management, and the equivalent of at least 30 credits, including at least
- 25 credits Agricultural Science
- 2,5 credits Technology
Objectives
Students will be able to describe and plan how physical principles and technical solutions interact with animal housing.
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
-Describe the most common building materials, construction principles and technical aids within Swedish animal housing,
-Perform a design of ventilation needs, and combine this with a calculation of heat balance,
-Describe and explain various housing systems for animal production,
-Demonstrate the ability to plan and argue for and against proposals for building plan solutions for animal production.
Content
The course builds mainly on lectures and reading of the literature, which is dealt with through submitted assignments. Subject-intersecting components with other courses may occur. Students also have the opportunity to carry out exercises/laboratory practicals. A group project must be carried out and presented in writing and orally. Opposition of another group’s work is also included. The project work, which aims to develop an animal production enterprise on a farm, comprises three components (planning, inspection and mechanisation) that deal with different species of animals. Compulsory parts of the course is the introduction, reporting of projects and papers, laboratory work and study visits.
Sub-courses
The course is divided into two parts that are examined separately. Sub-course 1 (Theory part) comprises 5 credits and sub-course 2 (Project assignment) comprises 5 credits.
Examination Formats and Requirements for Passing the Course
Passed written examinations and approved reporting of projects and written papers, assignments and participation in compulsory parts of the course.
