Objectives
The course provides basic knowledge of domestic animal physiology including histology, and is of fundamental significance for understanding on the function of healthy animals.
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- describe the structure and function of tissues and the organ systems,
- apply knowledge of the body’s organ and regulatory systems from an integrative perspective, as well as describe how organs and regulatory systems interact in various conditions,
- give an account of the similarities and most significant differences in the structure and function for different animal species.
Content
Subject-related content
The course addresses the histology and physiology of tissues and organs. The organ systems comprise the nervous system and the endocrine, respiratory, circulatory, digestion, reproductive, and secretory organs and the mammary glands. The hormonal and central regulatory mechanisms and integrative physiology are also included.
Students will learn how to handle animals.
Teaching formats
The course uses various teaching formats to promote student learning and discussions. These include using microscopes, group work and demonstrations. The course also includes handling live animals.
The course focuses on the following general skills
Use of technology, information literacy, and scientific methods.
The following components are compulsory
