Objectives
The aim of this course is to give an introduction to the program and to study at university. In collaboration with other agricultural programs and the module Agriculture, students get an overview of the agricultural industry and rural network.
After completing the course, the student should be able to:
- demonstrate the ability to find, read and discuss scientific literature within animal science, in speech and writing, with supervision,
- briefly describe land management, with a focus on agricultural and animal husbandry and its significance in society,
- briefly describe the animal world’s systematics and evolution with emphasis on vertebrates, and account for the domestication process,
- explain the historical development of agriculture with a focus on the conditions of animal production.
Content
The course content is basic animal science. The students read about agricultural animals and aquaculture, such as use of natural resource, agrarian history as well as agricultural production lines and annual cycles as well as basic evolutionary theory. The course provides an introduction in ethical argumentation.
The course includes lectures, study visits, student activating teaching, presentation exercises and project work.
Compulsory components occur in e.g. exercises, seminars, group work and study visits. In the course, the following general skills are trained: written and oral communication, analysis, problem solving and critical approach.
