- explain the effects of inflation, unemployment, and long-term growth rates in closed and open economies;
- explain the macroeconomic effects of fiscal and monetary policy with reference to both theory and relevant empirical observations.
Content
The course is carried out with the help of lectures, exercises, and self-study.
The course is about understanding how an economy - such as the Swedish economy - works, and how it can be managed. The course deals with theories that explain economic fluctuations in the short term and discusses the factors that govern the rate of inflation, unemployment, and growth in the long term. The course explains these theories in the context of both closed economies and open economies. A central perspective in the course is the circular flow of money between households, firms and other institutions. Based on economic theory and empirical observations, the course explains the various choices in macroeconomic policy.
Basic knowledge of macroeconomics is necessary to be able to analyse sustainability issues in environmental policy, agricultural policy and forest policy.
