Entry Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to 50 credits agricultural science and 20 credits technology.
Objectives
On completion of the course, the student is expected to have basic knowledge of mechanics, fluid mechanics, hydraulics, electric technology and modern manufacturing methodology. The student is also expected to have good knowledge of modern machines and technology used for precision farming.
On completion of the course the student should be able to:
- carry out calculations in order to dimension basic applications of fluid mechanics, hydraulics, mechanics and electric technology.
- describe modern manufacturing technology, common machine elements and materials used in the construction of agricultural field machines.
- describe the function of common types of engines and transmissions and show ability to evaluate the efficiency of these when used in different situations.
- briefly describe data communication and sensor and positioning technology in precision farming using both conventional and autonomous machines.
- utilise the knowledge about the technical properties of biomaterials to explain the design of basic technical applications in agriculture.
Content
The course is based on lectures and studies of literature that is processed through written assignments. The students will also do exercises, laboratory sessions and field trips.
