Objectives
The overarching aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge of construction and maintenance budgets applied in the various professional roles of the landscape construction engineer.
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- describe different phases in construction projects and the roles of the relevant actors in these
- describe and analyse the various forms of organisations and activitites within the sector
- describe and analyse procurement processes for the outdoor environment
- calculate the cost of soil construction projects and maintenance work
- draw up a timetable for soil construction projects and maintenance work
Content
The course will provide sector-based knowledge on how the relevant actors organise and run their operations. Municipal park operations, housing companies and construction companies comprise the areas of application for the professional role of the landscape construction engineer. This course focuses on procurement, estimation, planning and operation of construction and maintenance projects. The teaching methods are lectures and exercises, combined with theme- and project tasks in group and individual.
Examination Formats and Requirements for Passing the Course
The examination consists of reporting of group work, individual assignments and an individual written examination.To obtain the points for the course, students must submit approved reports on group work and individual assignments and obtain a pass grade in the written examination. Seminars for reporting is compulsory.
- If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
- The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
- If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
- For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
