I research maintenance requirements of modern nature-based solutions, focusing on how maintenance affects multifunctionality. I am course leader for Construction and Maintenance Economics and contribute to Forest and Landscape and Urban Ecology courses.

Presentation

I have studied agricultural science and worked with hydroponics and living walls. In 2023, I began my PhD at SLU, where I have focused on maintenance requirements in relation to integrated vegetation in urban environments. What is required for modern nature-based solutions, which depend on technological innovation, to remain multifunctional over time? With my research, I aim to:

  • Increase understanding of nature-based solutions and nature-based thinking
  • Highlight maintenance requirements
  • Promote nature-based solutions that mitigate climate change and strengthen resilience

Research

Research is challenging how we plan and manage cities in relation to nature. Nature-based solutions are often presented as responses to urban and climate-related challenges, but without long-term planned maintenance, their functionality risks being lost. By viewing maintenance as an integrated part of urban planning, we can reshape our understanding of the city as a system in which humans and nature mutually sustain each other’s vitality.

Teaching

Course leader for the course Construction and Maintenance Economics within the Landscape Engineering programme. Contributes to and lectures in the courses Forest and Landscape Governance and Analysis of the Forest Landscape within the Forest and Landscape programme. Lectures in the Master’s course Urban Ecology.

Educational credentials

Grading course and Introductory course in Higher Education Pedagogy.
