Knowledge equivalent to 45 credits within the subject:

Objectives
Students will develop their knowledge about their professional role, reflect upon this knowledge, and link it to their education.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
- describe the organisation where they participated in their placement as well as the aim of the activities conducted in their workplace
- identify and describe the role of the landscape construction engineer and horticulture management engineer where the student participated in their placement
- demonstrate improved oral presentation and written communication skills
Content
Subject-related content:
By participating on their placement, students will gain an increased familiarity with working with the design, function, maintenance and governance of our green outdoor environments. This work is to focus on biological, economic and social sustainability. Throughout the course, students will implement and deepen the knowledge they have acquired during their studies into their practical work on their placement.
Students will draw upon their practical experiences and reflect on the professional role of the landscape engineer or garden engineer in both the workplace and society. These reflections will be presented in a brief written report and oral presentation. Furthermore, students will reflect upon equality and its implementation in the workplace.
Students must arrange their own placement. Sometimes, they will need to consult with the course coordinator first and discuss planned tasks with the workplace. The course coordinator will then determine whether the tasks fall under the intended professional profile and approve the provider if appropriate.
Teaching formats:
The course comprises a nine-week compulsory placement, the equivalent of 40 hours per week. Students must submit a written reflection or report every three weeks to the course coordinator or assigned supervisor at SLU. Wherever possible, the course coordinator will visit the workplace where the student is conducting their placement. However, this will depend on the placement’s geographical location and travel possibilities. During the course coordinator’s visit, the student will present and discuss the tasks they have performed in the workplace. Upon completion of the placement, the student will present their experiences during a seminar together with the other students on the course.
To further student learning and promote discussion, a variety of methods are used: Proficiency training, written assignments and oral presentations to promote student learning and discussion.
The course focuses on the following generic skills:
Problem solving, digital competence, critical thinking, teamwork, time planning and management, use of technology and ability to work autonomously.
The following course components are compulsory*:*
Nine-week placement, final oral presentation and three written reports submitted while the placement is ongoing.
Examination Formats and Requirements for Passing the Course
Minimum attendance of 80 per cent, as well as three approved written reports, successful oral presentation and seminar participation.
