Requirements for entry to the Agricultural and Rural Management Bachelor´s Degree Programme
Objectives
By the end of the course, students will have acquired knowledge of, and be able to analyse, methods and technical aspects of production and storage of products from agriculture, in which account is taken of the actual production conditions.
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- describe and assess various methods and technical principles for the establishment, management, harvesting and storage of products, such as cereals, oilseed rape, and fodder, while taking into account production conditions and long-term sustainability,
- account for, and assess machine systems by compiling technical and biological knowledge into an economic calculation,
- prepare a basic plan/design of machine systems, irrigation and drying installations,
- describe and explain work environment issues in crop production, especially with respect to risks for injury and ill health, as well as how they can be prevented by systematic focus on work environment issues.
Content
The course has teacher-led seminars and exercises, and uses different forms of teaching to promote student activity and discussions: seminars, quizzes, study questions, and case studies. Cooperation takes place with the sector businesses through guest lecturers and study visits.
There are several case studies. One deals with tillage machinery where the choice of machinery and function is discussed. Another will calculate the cost for machinery within a farm business with ordinary crops and machines. The case studies are discussed in small groups and are presented both in writing and orally.
Exercises may consist of identifying work environment risks in a farm, or studying the distribution of liquid drops in a crop with different application techniques. The exercises are often presented both in writing and orally at seminars, but other forms may exist.
There are also course sections where the student gets the opportunity to practise basic calculations to better understand how a tractor vehicle is affected by a towed machine, as well as how water systems are designed, and the capacity of a drying installations. The student will use different types of nomograms, such as ColeBrooks and Mollier chart, in their calculations.
Examination Formats and Requirements for Passing the Course
Pass grade in a final written examination. Pass grade in active participation in compulsory seminars. Pass grade in assignment work.
