Staff Scientist in Sensory Evaluation of Plant-Based Foods
Department of Molecular Sciences
SLU is seeking an independent and highly motivated staff scientist for a temporary position focusing on sensory perception and consumer evaluation of plant-based foods. The successful candidate will work at the Department of Molecular Sciences, SLU, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary research center PAN Sweden.
Your profile
The shift towards plant-based foods offers benefits for health, the environment, and the climate. However, this dietary transition also presents challenges related to consumer acceptance, where sensory attributes such as taste, texture, and appearance play a key role. In recent years, several research initiatives, including PAN, HealthFerm, and related projects, have focused on characterizing and improving the functional and nutritional properties of plant-based proteins and fibers. These efforts include the development of tofu and tempeh from Nordic crops. As research continues to enhance the texture and nutritional profile of plant-based foods, a close link with sensory perception and consumer response is essential for product success.
The staff scientist will:
- Design and conduct sensory evaluations of plant-based foods.
 - Analyze and interpret sensory and consumer data.
 - Prepare and manage applications for ethical approval within the Swedish system.
 - Work independently on their own research project while also supporting colleagues in ongoing sensory-related studies.
 - Contribute to the dissemination of research findings through reports, publications, and presentations.

The applicant should have:
- A background in sensory science, food science, or a related field.
 - Experience in sensory evaluation methods and statistical or multivariate data analysis.
 - Familiarity with consumer studies and ethical approval processes in Sweden is an advantage.
 - Strong skills in experimental design, data handling, and reporting.
 - The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary projects.
 - The candidate should have a PhD not older then 5 years, at the employment.

Personal qualities such as a strong sense of responsibility, good communication skills, and an organized, proactive work style are highly valued. Previous experience with plant-based foods or product development is considered meritorious.
