Veterinarian (Clinical Pathologist) at the Clinical Pathology Laboratory

Department of Clinical Sciences

We are now looking for an experienced veterinary clinical pathologist for the animal hospital's Clinical Pathology Laboratory, which is a specialized laboratory in veterinary clinical pathology. We analyze clinical samples and research samples from all animal species. The samples come from all over Sweden. The clinical pathology laboratory employs approximately 15 coworkers, including veterinarians (clinical pathologists), biomedical analysts, and other laboratory staff.

About the position

You will be part of our dedicated veterinary team that provides advisory services to the University Animal Hospital (UDS), other clinics, and veterinarians throughout Sweden. The position involves assessing cytological and haematological samples. Furthermore, telephone consultations, quality assurance, analysis work, and involvement in various areas of responsibility are also part of your duties. Teaching clinical pathology,  supervising students and ECVCP residents will also be included in your tasks. Working hours are mainly weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but other working hours may occur.

Your profile

Applicants must have Swedish, European or equivalent veterinary certification. You have knowledge of and interest in clinical pathology. Since SLU is a bilingual workplace and veterinarians at the clinical pathology laboratory have telephone consultations and write test results in Swedish, you need to be fluent in both Swedish and English. If Swedish is not your native language, SLU offers language courses to give you, as an employee, a good opportunity to learn Swedish.

Great importance will be attached to personal suitability. You want to understand the needs and perspectives of others and share your knowledge in a pedagogical way. You are meticulous, always conscious of quality, communicative, customer- and service-oriented, and find it easy to collaborate with others.

You plan your work independently and adapt your tasks to the needs of the laboratory. You find it easy to see where and how you can facilitate and support your colleagues.

Employees at the animal hospital can apply for research grants to conduct research in their field of science to a limited extent/for a limited period of time.

Qualifications required for the role

  • You are a licensed veterinarian.
  • You have documented knowledge and extensive experience in cytological, haematological, biochemical, and endocrinological veterinary laboratory diagnostics.
  • You are fluent in spoken and written Swedish and/or English.
  • You are a proficient computer user.

Qualifying merits

  • You are a European or American specialist in veterinary clinical pathology (Dipl. ECVCP/ACVCP).
  • You have experience in supervising students and/or residents.
  • You are fluent in both Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
