Doctoral student Kajsa Lätt
Kajsa is studying how forage production can be secured as the weather becomes increasingly extreme.
Kajsa Lätt began her doctoral studies at the Department of Applied Animal Science and Welfare in Skara in February 2025. She combines her research with work as a livestock advisor at Hushållningssällskapet Västra, where she is employed part-time (50%).
Kajsa holds a degree in Animal Science (husdjursagronom) and graduated in 2019. She has previously worked as a feed sales representative and grew up on a farm in Skaraborg, where she still helps out when needed—both with the animals and in the fields. Her interest in agriculture and food production has been present since childhood, and her motivation is clear: she wants to ensure that Swedish food remains on our plates in the future.
Her PhD project, “Forage in a Changing Climate,” focuses on how forage production can be secured as the weather becomes increasingly extreme, with both droughts and intense rainfall. Kajsa studies, among other things, the nutrient composition of the perennial wheatgrass Kernza, its ensiling properties, and how it performs in intercropping with lucerne. She also investigates new timothy varieties and analyzes which harvest timing provides the best nutritional value in maize cultivation in the former county of Skaraborg. The main supervisor for the project is Katarina Arvidsson Segerkvist.
In her free time, Kajsa enjoys spending time with her Labrador, exercising, gardening, and crocheting.
