Doctoral student Lisa Stensson
Lisa's doctoral project focuses on multifunctional beef production on natural pastures.
My name is Lisa Stensson and since August I have been a doctoral student at the Department of Applied Animal Science and Welfare (THV) at SLU in Skara. In 2023, I graduated from the Animal Science program and have since worked in the feed industry. My main interests are animal nutrition and circular food systems that protect people, animals, and nature.
My doctoral work focuses on multifunctional beef production on natural pastures and consists of four sub-projects, all related to pasture planning, biodiversity, and the role of grazing in both nature restoration and profitable use of pasture and forest land. One of these projects is part of SustAnimal. In that project, we intend to investigate how feeding intensity during a period of stabling affects growth and thus also the level of compensatory growth during the subsequent grazing period.
Through all of my projects, I strive to contribute valuable tools for managing our natural pastures more efficiently. I also want to further highlight the value of natural pastures as an important part of a sustainable, circular, and robust food system, and show that integration between nature conservation, meat production, and forestry is not only possible but can also be profitable.
My main supervisor during my doctoral studies is Anna Hessle (SLU) and my assistant supervisors are Mikaela Jardstedt (SLU) and Jens Becker (UniBE).
