Ten new SLU professors give lectures

Every year, a number of new professors are appointed at SLU, and in connection with their inauguration, they give short, open, popular science lectures. This year, these lectures will take place on Thursday 8 May and Friday 9 May. Of the ten new professors, six are based in Uppsala and four in Umeå.

Is it possible to push the boundaries of which plants can be grafted? Could earthworms be an environmental problem? Can we understand how animals perceive the world? These are examples of questions the new professors will address in their lectures.

Each lecture will begin with a short film presenting the professor and a conversation between the professor and moderator Malin von Essen. After this introduction, each professor will give a 15-minute popular science lecture, followed by a question-and-answer session. Five of the lectures will be given in Swedish and five in English, as stated in the programme.

The lectures will be broadcast live and can be followed at https://www.slu.se/professors, or on site in Studio Ultuna in the Teaching Building (Undervisningshuset) on SLU's Uppsala campus, Almas allé 10. There is limited seating in the studio and the  lectures will therefore also be streamed to the adjacent Room K. There will be a 10-minute break between lectures. It will not be possible to enter the studio when a lecture is in progress. 

The broadcast will take place in real time and it will be possible to submit questions during the lecture via nyaprofessorer@slu.se. No login or pre-registration is required.
