Entry Requirements
Objectives
The objective of the course is to provide students with the ability to plan and design buildings for agricultural enterprises, countryside recreation enterprises or other business operations in the countryside.
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Describe and explain the historical development of rural buildings
- Assess how the location of buildings affects the rural environment and how the architectural and cultural tradition of buildings can be utilised and improved
- Analyse planning conditions as a consequence of the type and design of the production enterprise
- Calculate and analyse the space and location requirements of some different rural enterprises
- Demonstrate an ability to plan, from an overall building science perspective, buildings and establishments with respect to functional and constructive requirements
- Prepare and assess documentation for planning permission and other official permits
- Prepare and analyse cost calculations and carry out building economics assessments
- Provide examples of, and motivate, idea flows in society concerning building work and adapt building projects to these.
Content
The course is based on lectures and reading of the literature, which provide the knowledge required to plan buildings and to prepare drawings and specifications. Students will also have the opportunity to carry out exercises and study trips, and shall actively participate in seminars. A major project work will be carried out and presented orally and in writing.

Reporting of project work and practical assignments. Requirements for examination: Pass grade in reporting of project and practical assignments, plus active participation in compulsory components
