Course description
This course introduces landscape architecture as an academic subject and a professional field. Through analysis, exercises and projects, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the spatial, ecological and cultural dimensions of landscape.
Explorations into landscape architecture is an introductory course at advanced level that provides a broad overview of the theory, practice and working methods of landscape architecture. The course is designed to establish a common knowledge base for students from different educational backgrounds.
Through case studies, project work, lectures, workshops and field trips, the role of landscape architecture in social development, planning and design is explored. You will work on site-specific analyses and develop an understanding of landscapes at different scales, from local environments to larger territorial contexts.
Part of the course involves training in sketching and visual communication as tools for investigating spatial issues and formulating ideas. The course encourages reflection, critical thinking and independent learning, and equips you to plan your future studies in landscape architecture.
