My Röbäcksdalen: Our Landscape!

SLU Urban Futures is hosting a student design competition in the spring and summer of 2024. Students in the field of Landscape Architecture and sustainable urban development will be given the chance to shape a unique urban setting of Umeå’s future. The competition is published on CANVAS.

SLU Röbäcksdalen - A research station for experimental knowledge production

Röbäcksdalen in Umeå is a Field Research Station, a Dairy Research Barn, and a multifunctional landscape situated at the Röbäck plains - the largest continuous agricultural land in northern Sweden. The urban location creates opportunities for collaborations across disciplines and sectors.

Getting our Cities Right #3 - Take-aways and summaries

The third conference in the Getting Our Cities Right series was organised at Campus Umeå in June 2023. Throughout this conference, we explored the concept of urban forestscapes, looking at the complex links between forests, cities and people. Read the take-aways and presentation summaries here.

Urban Forests

Urban trees and forests contribute to making cities socio-economically and environmentally more sustainable. This is a transdisciplinary field where the two platforms SLU Urban Futures and Future Forests meet. Together they are organising a webinar series on urban forests.

Urban Wildlife

This project aims to develop collaborations between wildlife ecologists and municipalities, developing a system to monitor urban wildlife, providing new knowledge that can be used to inform urban planning.

SLU and Umeå municipality sign an agreement on collaboration

In the collaboration agreement signed on 11 April 2022 at SLU's field research station in Röbäcksdalen, three areas were pointed out as particularly important: sustainable cities, bioeconomy and skills supply & lifelong learning. (Article in Swedish)
