Erland Liljeroth

Erland Liljeroth
I am a senior lecturer with extension duties and also promoted professor in plant protection. I work with extension and research in plant protection especially regarding fungal and oomycete pathogens. I participate in various national and international extension networks as for example Partnership Alnarp, ”Fältforsk” (field research) at SLU, Euroblight network and have active cooperation with several stakeholders on plant protection.

Research

My research deals with plant defence and induced resistance and practical applications of alternative plant protection methods and traditional pesticides to obtain efficient disease control with minimized use of pesticides. This is done by e.g. combining cultivar resistance with non-toxic plant resistance inducers (strengtherner’s) and fungicides. I work mainly with potato diseases such as late blight (Phytopthora infestans) and early blight (Alternaria solani) but also with other crops and diseases, e.g. powdery mildew on cucumber. In collaboration with other researcher I also study pathogen population changes over time and as response to different control methods.
