SLU conducts cutting-edge research and holds prominent positions in several university rankings.
SLU is a global leader in research across several key areas. For example, in the Times Higher Education Young University Ranking, SLU is placed 49th in the world and is Sweden's best "young university". SLU has been awarded five stars out of five possible by STINT, the Foundation for the Internationalisation of Higher Education and Research.
International rankings
STINT, the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education
- SLU has received the maximum rating, five stars, for our work with internationalisation, placing us alongside other leading Swedish universities. Read about the ranking here.
QS Rankings
- Third best university in the world for agriculture and forestry, and 29th for veterinary science, 2025.
The CWTS Leiden Ranking
- The CWTS Leiden Ranking (2024) ranks universities according to various measures of the scope and quality of scientific publishing. In terms of the number of publications that are among the top 10 percent in their field (P top 10%), SLU ranks 5th among Swedish universities.
National Taiwan University Rankings
- SLU by area and subject: 13th place worldwide for plant and animal sciences, 51st for agriculture and 24th for environment and ecology, 2024.
Shanghai Ranking Lists
- The ARWU overall ranking places SLU among the 301–400 best universities worldwide in 2024.
- SLU performs well in the GRAS academic subject ranking 2024, particularly for agricultural sciences (rank 5), ecology (rank 26), and veterinary sciences (rank 35).
Times Higher Education Ranking
- THE World University Rankings place SLU in the 351–400 interval, 2023.
- SLU ranks 49th among the world’s best young universities, making it the second-best young university in Sweden, 2024.
Times Higher Education Impact Ranking
- As of 1 June 2023, we are now in the top 201–300 bracket of the 1 591 higher education institutions evaluated by the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023. We rank 13th for SDG 2 – zero hunger, 29th for SDG 13 – climate action, and 39th for SDG14 – life below water.
