Jesper Larsson, professor of agrarian history

Page reviewed:  24/02/2026

Jesper Larsson is a professor of agrarian history since 6 March 2025. His inauguration lecture has the title "Att ligga I framkant, hos bönder och renskötare".

Jesper Larsson's research addresses the leap in the use of commonly owned and used resources that took place in northern Scandinavia during the 17th century. It covers the expansion of farming with seasonal movements of livestock, the emergence of large-scale reindeer herding and a greatly increased production of tar, firewood and charcoal. The overarching question is how rules and norms for the management of natural resources are created. To understand how landscape use and settlement changed, he also examines user organizations, property rights, gender division of labour and relations between users and the state.
