Johan Lundqvist, professor of toxicology

Page reviewed:  19/04/2026

Johan Lundqvist is a professor of toxicology since 1 December 2024. His inauguration lecture is titled "Kanariefågeln i gruvan 2.0 – ett nytt varningssystem för hälsofarliga ämnen".

Johan Lundqvist develops methods and strategies to rapidly detect hazardous chemical contaminants in drinking water. His methods are based on mammalian cells that are cultured in the laboratory and used as sensors to detect toxic substances in water samples. The great strength of these methods is that they measure the total toxicity of analysed samples, thereby accounting for both known and unknown substances and the mixture effects that arise from simultaneous exposure to multiple substances.
