Researching concepts that can strengthen ecosystem services
A sustainable and resilient Agri-food system need society to let a thousand flowers bloom.
This research area is about realizing that several parallel development paths need to be supported simultaneously. For example the development of new counceling concepts that aim to strengthen ecosystem services and nature-based solutions in the agricultural landscape, as well as diversity in the forest. Through our research and support, we can contribute to developing expertise in new areas of knowledge, where there is a lack of skilled actors who meet the new needs.
There is also a connection to emergency and food supply issues. Increased diversity and resilience are necessary for strengthened preparedness and sustainable food supplies. Sustainable land and water use, together with new, innovative food systems, needs to be developed.
But this does not happen by itself; these change processes requires will, ability and expertise.
How can actors overcome bottlenecks and connect across the policy system, to build preparedness based on local and regional resources? This requires social innovations that engage both farmers and other actors within the food system.
SLU Competence Center for Advisory Services can contribute by initiating, designing and researching collaborative processes that lead to better preparedness and strengthened supplychains.
