Postdoc in silviculture
Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre
We are looking for a person to conduct research in silviculture and growth and yield modelling.
About the position
The projects focus on stand management in conifer tree species and choice of tree species in harsh conditions. The experiments that will be evaluated in this post-doc project are located in the boreal part of Sweden. The post-doc will measure existing experiments, analyse data from these experiments and report in scientific journals. The research questions include early stand management in small dimension dense forests, selection of tree species and operational implementation of adaptations to climate change. Field work will be conducted during August - September in northern Sweden.
The candidate will belong to the silviculture unit at the department and work in a silviculture team with focus on forest management for multiuse purposes, addressing issues on climate change adaptation and high-versus low intensity forestry. We use empirical and process based modelling, with input data from the National Forest Inventory and long-term experiments. In this one year position the candidate will work with researchers both from Umeå and Alnarp, and we will promote mobility between the campuses over the year. The position is placed formally in Alnarp but the candidate can have their main part of working time in Alnarp, Uppsala or Umeå, in agreements with the project leaders.
Your profile
The candidate must have a PhD degree in silviculture, forest growth and yield modelling, and/or forest management The candidate must have proven experience in data analysis of tree and stand data, described in scientific publications and/or thesis.
Extra merits are previous experience in design of forest experiments for regeneration or stand management and experience of the tree species in northern Europe. The department sees a big value in candidates that are interested in teaching and supervision of undergraduate students. It is also an advantage if the candidate have a valid drivers license and proven experience in conducting field work.
As postdoctoral appointments are career-developing positions for junior researchers, we are primarily looking for candidates with a doctoral degree that is three years old at most.
