6th Natura 2000 Monitoring Workshop
The 6th Natura 2000 monitoring workshop, hosted in the northern city of Umeå in Sweden, focusses on monitoring habitat and species of international importance and the integration of new technologies.

The workshop will look at the importance of decision-making in nature conservation and include monitoring case studies on several habitats, such as wetland restoration projects, mountain meadows and coastal zones.
There will also be presentations on planning habitat monitoring projects with drones. The species case studies will include wolverine, Arctic fox, bats and invasive species like Lupinus spp. The methods will vary but typically involve remote data collectionusing one or more of satellites, drones, trail cameras, eDNA or sound recording devices.
We will consult with stakeholders on how their priorities could be met by innovative techniques for collecting and analysing biodiversity monitoring data. These are currently being developed as part of the Horizon Biodiversity Meets Data project led by the Naturalis Biodiversity Centre and including partners such as Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh and Eurosite.
The workshop will be hosted by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, section of Landscape Analysis, together with Eurosite – the European Land Conservation Network, and with the support of Biodiversity Meets Data (BMD).
