The Global Agenda for Sustainable Livestock (GASL) Action Network Livestock Antimicrobial partnership (LAMP) is pleased to invite you to a roundtable discussion focussed on “Non-antimicrobials as alternatives to prevent and cure infections in livestock – current status and role”.

Reducing the use of antimicrobials is a must to mitigate the emergence of antimicrobial resistance in the livestock sector. Such a reduction can be achieved by reducing the need for antimicrobials through a set of infection-preventive measures such as good animal husbandry, effective biosecurity and adequate vaccinations. However, despite these efforts animals sometimes become sick from microbes and must be treated with medicines. In some instances, so called “traditional medicines” are used.

The objective of this roundtable discussion is to explore the current status and role of these “traditional medicines” as substitutes for antimicrobials with respect to efficacy, cost efficiency, availability, regulatory aspects, and international guidelines for their use.

Participating organisations are SLU, Anthra, VSF- international, ILRI, WOAH and FAO. More information available on the GASL website.
