Workshop: Outdoor creative painting in Uppsala

Welcome to a hands-on painting workshop focused on composition and creative thinking!

Date: 16 September 2025

Time: 13:00 - 16:00

Organiser: SLU University Library

Venue: We will meet at the library on floor 3 of Ulls hus

Location: Uppsala

Registration to: biblioteket@slu.se

Last day of registration: 15 September 2025

In this three-hour session, participants will explore the basics of visual composition through fun and accessible painting exercises. We’ll look at how balance, contrast, and flow can shape a painting and how to unlock your creativity through intuitive mark-making and visual storytelling.

This is a process-focused workshop, open to beginners and anyone curious about painting. The goal is not technical perfection, but to experiment and develop confidence in your own visual language. We will use aquarelle or acrylic paints as material, which will be provided by the library.

The workshop will be held outside somewhere on campus. In case of bad weather, we will be inside. We’ll meet by the library (Ulls hus).

You will learn:

  • how to build a strong composition using basic tools;
  • how to work freely and creatively without overthinking;
  • simple exercises to loosen up and get ideas flowing.

Participants are asked to bring:

  • a blanket or something to sit on comfortably outdoors
  • your own painting materials if you wish (but the library will provide an array of materials to be used as well).

The session is led by Shermin Eslami Far, an artist with 30 years of experience in different painting techniques, composition, and creative process.

Spaces are limited — sign up by sending an email to library@slu.se.

The workshop is in English.
