In his lecture prof. emeritus Kjell Danell will reflect on Art versus Science. What is a university? Drivers for scientists. How to find new ideas? The different research approaches. Ethic codes. Good research environments. Where are the money? Building networks. Scientist or administrator? Finding jobs. What should I have in my curriculum? The role of scientists in a democratic society.
Kjell Danell was born 1946 in Norrbotten. He studied chemistry, botany, zoology and environmental sciences at Umeå University. After dissertation 1978 on the invasive species muskrat he moved to SLU, Umeå. He founded the Department of Wildlife, Fish, and Environmental Studies and is now professor emeritus. His research covers interactions between animals, plants and man in boreal forests, on tundra and savannas. During recent years he has focused more on research on the history of land use in Sweden, but also on the Arctic and art science. He has worked 60+ years as an ecologist.
