Programs

Activities open 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Dive beneath the surface in our aquariums

We study many of the fish that live close to us—but have you seen them up close? Meet the fascinating burbot, with its ribbon-like fins, and learn how it finds food in the dark.

How old is the tree? Count for yourself!

A tree can live for hundreds of years—but how do we know its age? Here, you can examine the rings that form in a tree year by year and discover what they reveal about the tree’s life.

Explore the hidden life of fungi

We often see mushrooms growing on moss in the forest—but there’s much more happening underground that we can’t see. Look through a microscope and discover the secret world of fungi with us!

Learn about the forest—from the air!

Using drones, researchers can see the forest from above and better understand its health, growth, and changes. Stop by to see how smart technology makes it possible to explore the forest from the sky.

See how the forest breathes

When you exhale, the plants take over! Try it yourself—breathe into a container and watch as the plants absorb the carbon dioxide from your breath. With the help of sensors, we show how the forest helps keep the air clean.

Build our green future—with LEGO

What can we create from the forest—beyond just wood? Explore a LEGO model that shows the journey from tree to everyday items. Guess which things come from the forest and keep building your own creations!

Listen to our podcast—Skogen & Människan (The Forest and Us)

How do we affect the forest? And how does it affect us? Listen to SLU’s podcast Skogen & Människan, which tackles the forest’s most pressing questions. Meet host Daniel Stjärna and share your ideas for future episodes!

Experience our wildlife hide – eagle watching!

Step inside our hide and see how researchers conceal themselves to blend into nature and get close to wild animals. The hide is used, among other things, to tag golden eagles—a key tool for learning more about their lives and how they are affected by humans. Crawl in and experience what it’s like to be a nature observer!

Join us for vole-watching!

Did you know that voles and other small rodents live in cycles? Some years there are plenty, other years almost none. This affects the whole ecosystem. Voles are important prey for predators like owls and foxes, but they can also carry viruses. At SLU, we monitor voles by trapping and taking samples. Come see the traps we use and talk to our field experts!

Take a break at our café

Sit down and enjoy a coffee or snack. We are offering all visitors free refreshments!

The program is continuously being updated.

How can forestry reduce wind damage?

Storms can topple thousands of trees in just a few hours. But what can you, as a forest owner, do to reduce the risk of severe damage? Researcher Teresa Fustel takes us into the world of storms—from the areas most often affected to how different types of storms impact the forest. She also explains how climate change is altering the risk landscape and shares practical tips on forest management to help forests withstand strong winds.
