Studium Generale: why is the sustainability transition so slow?
Welcome to Studium Generale, SLU’s initiative for broader reflection on current topics! In the second session this autumn, we will tackle the increasingly contested issue of sustainability transition. Why is progress so slow? Is it our sense or sensibility that is getting in the way?
Date: 23 October 2025
Time: 12:00 - 13:30
Organiser: SLU University Library
Venue: Alnarp: Loftet, Umeå: P-O Bäckströms room, Uppsala: W
Location: Alnarp, Online, Umeå, Uppsala
- Language: Swedish
The event will be opened by SLU researcher Martin Westin, who will discuss the role of emotions in the transition based on his studies of dialogues on contested sustainability issues. After the lecture, there will be an opportunity to reflect on the theme in a relaxed format at the main campuses.
The library offers a light lunch to those who stay after the lecture.
We bid you a warm welcome!

About Studium Generale
In today's world, few skills are as important as being able to reflect on your own opinions and behaviour: what has made me think the way I do? What do I know that I know and what do I take for granted? Inspired by Dutch and German universities, SLU is now launching Studium Generale - a series of activities for students and staff focusing on joint reflection on current topics. Nothing is compulsory, nothing is recorded - it's an opportunity to test your thoughts without being judged.
