Seminar: From soil-plant interactions to multifunctional landscapes and sustainable food systems
- highlights from a 40-year research journey
Date: 11 December 2025
Time: 15:00 - 16:00
Venue: Tammsalen at the Ecology Centre or via Zoom
Organiser: Department of Crop Production Ecology, SLU
Location: Online, Uppsala
You are most welcome to attend a seminar by Professor Ingrid Öborn, who retires this year from her Professorship in Cropping Systems at the Department of Crop Production Ecology. (But we look forward to keeping her as an Emeritus professor next year.)
In the seminar Ingrid will highlight concepts and key results from her research career. Starting from acid agricultural soils in Sweden and their causes and implications for crop growth and quality, she will dive into the acid sulphate soils formed in the former Baltic Sea basin that constitute about 5% of Sweden’s agricultural land.
Next, she will illustrate the use of long-term field experiments to quantify potassium release through mineral weathering related to soil parent material, cropping system and other site characteristics. Then, moving from field to farm and landscape perspectives, she will describe research into how land use and management practices, including land restoration, agroforestry and crop–livestock integration, affect provisioning of ecosystem services in different climatic zones.
Finally, in systems research projects including Food 21, Future Agriculture and Drylands Transform, she has been involved in developing different scenarios that highlight challenges and opportunities for future agriculture and food system research, policy and practice.
