Writing the thesis summary (kappa) is the final phase of the doctoral studies. The Kappa is intended to describe four years of full time work and the individual studies that comprise the doctoral thesis. This part of the seminar will give an overview of the thesis summary with an emphasis on the composite thesis (collection of articles and a summary). We will go through the guidelines of SLU, describe the various headings that can be included, offer recommendations on the writing process, convey some examples of thesis summaries, and provide practical advice on how to approach this final phase.
Presenting the PhD thesis and its defence is the final stage of the doctoral studies. The thesis summary presentation and tactics during the defence are intended to highlight your knowledge, skills, maturity, growth and innovative abilities, after four years of full time work.
This seminar will provide you guidance on how to approach the thesis presentation and its defence. In the seminar you will also have ample time for questions and answers on this subject. It is open for all PhD students at SLU but also for anyone who is interested in learning more about writing the thesis summary, regardless of research area or faculty.
