Multidisciplinary Seminar Course, 3 ECTS
Date: 28 May 2026
Organiser: Research School: People, Society and Sustainability (PSS)
Location: Uppsala
Dear PhD students, dear supervisors,
The Research School PSS will offer a new course format which might be interested to most of you:
Multidisciplinary Seminar Course, 3 ECTS
For this course, PhD students visit 10 seminars across the departments SOL and Ekon, or within SLU more widely (of which at least 3 are outside of the department that the student is situated in), such as PhD defences or seminars, divisional (higher) seminar lectures or lunch seminars, and actively engage in seminar discussions through preparatory work (reading assigned literature) and asking questions during the seminar.
The written output is a 4000 words essay reflecting on the relevance of four of the attended seminars for their own PhD thesis (conceptually, empirically, methodologically), and discussing the value of different disciplinary perspectives. The list of the attended 10 seminars and the essay need to be approved by the PhD supervisor, and sent for course credit approval to course leader.
On completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Discuss the value of different disciplinary perspectives across various themes
- Describe how seminar topics are relevant to their own field and neighbouring disciplines
- Clearly and concisely communicate relation of the concepts, methods and content of the visited seminars to their own PhD thesis
Start and end date: between PhD registration and defence
Organiser: Research School: People, Society and Sustainability (PSS)
Course Leader: Stephanie Leder-Büttner
Registration: Register a few months before your defence by emailing the list of 10 seminars and the essay, both approved by the supervisor, to the course leader (Stephanie)
