Walking and meditating with plants
Welcome to a workshop in the project "Ecological Pilgrimage".
Date: 25 May 2026
Time: 14:30 - 15:45
Language: English
Last day of registration: 25 May 2026
Location: Uppsala
Most of us have experienced that nature has a soothing effect on us and reminds us that we are part of something much larger – an intricate, beautiful web of life. When walking through a forest or having our hands in the soil in our garden, we sense it in an embodied way. Plants play important roles here – as indicators and land markers, but also teachers and interlocutors – if we pay attention and listen to them.
As part of the project Ecological Pilgrimage, we invite you to a workshop where we test how we may communicate with a plant through meditation, and how this can contribute to the practice of ecological pilgrimage. It’s an invitation to slow down, listen differently, and notice what changes in us when we shift away from a human-centered way of perceiving the world and open to connections with plants. We will also reflect upon how such practices can be implemented in other contexts of nature guiding and nature interpretation.
You don’t need any meditation experience, just curiosity and an openness to a different way of being.
Tea will be served, please bring a cup & please dress for the weather and bring something to sit on — we will be outside.
About the guide: Swenja has over the past years worked in various contexts where nature and our contact with it are a focus. She holds a master’s degree in sustainable communications from SLU, and she has completed an herbal medicine apprenticeship at the ethnobotanic institute in southern Germany, a Nordic/Germanic shamanism apprenticeship at Tunritha and a Folkhögskolekurs in Naturliv.
