Nature-based solutions for a biodiverse and just future
How do we ensure that nature-based solutions deliver lasting results for biodiversity and climate while advancing justice and human rights?

Location: Alnarp, Online
Join us for a hybrid event at SLU Alnarp showcasing four research projects funded under the Biodiversa+ BiodivNBS call. Just before the UN Biodiversity COP17 in Yerevan, this event will discuss a shared challenge: strengthening, scaling and governing nature-based solutions so they work for present and future generations of people and other living beings.
Biodiversa+, Europe's biodiversity research funding partnership, supports transnational projects that generate knowledge and tools to halt biodiversity loss and strengthen nature-based solutions
The morning will open with reflections from Elin Weyler (Formas) on BiodivNBS and Sweden's role in future Biodiversa+ calls, followed by Lovisa Lagerblad and colleagues from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Naturvårdsverket).
Four project teams will then present their work:
- DEFEND-BIO (RWI- Lund University, Claudia Ituarte-Lima) – Exploring how biosphere defenders can use legal and governance tools to advance just sustainability transformations
- GREENHANCEnbt (SLU, Geovana Mercado) – Examining how urban agriculture can be enhanced to boost human wellbeing, community connection, and biodiversity
- inSALSA (SLU, Sajeevan Radha Sivarajan) – Advancing sustainable agribiologicals through living labs in sub-Saharan Africa
- WildCrop (SLU, Johan Stenberg) – Investigating rewilding of crop-bodyguard interactions to support the green transformation of agriculture
The programme will conclude with a panel debate centred on three questions that connects the four projects: what does it take to move nature-based solutions from research and living labs into everyday farming, urban planning, and policy? Who is responsible for ensuring they deliver real, lasting biodiversity gains rather than short-term fixes? And who ultimately benefits when they succeed?
