Studium Generale: How to think on AI – exploring together the possibilities, tensions and implications

Through a diverse mix of materials such as podcasts, lectures, academic writing, and fiction, we want to open conversations about what AI might mean for us. Together, we will reflect on how knowledge is made and cared for, ethics, and the relationship between technology and natural resources.  

The reading circle is open for students, teachers, researchers, PhD students and other staff member at the university. Perhaps you are surprised by the usefulness and support you find in AI, or you struggle with how AI blurs some borders and challenges how we view human effort. Or perhaps you are simply curious. 

You don’t need any knowledge of AI or a pre-existing standpoint to participate. Our only expectation is that you are interested in exploring together with others. The focus of this circle is the conversation and the opportunity of deep reflection together. We therefore ask you to commit to being present at all four sessions.

The circle meets on four occasions and runs in parallel at in Umeå (together with Umeå University), Uppasla, Alnarp and Malmö University. For the third session, we will all meet online, bringing together participants from all the local circles.  

The materials will be in English. The circle will be held in English if one or several participants prefer English. 

We’ll of course have fika at every session.
