Doctoral supervisors play a central role in doctoral education. However, their own wellbeing has received far less attention than that of doctoral researchers. Drawing on recent research, this lunch seminar focuses on what we currently know about doctoral supervisors’ occupational wellbeing and how it is connected to supervision.
In this seminar, we will discuss how everyday supervision practices and arrangements including workload, co‑supervision, relationships with doctoral researchers, and relationships with colleagues are connected to supervisors’ wellbeing. The seminar aims to support supervisors in reflecting on their own experiences in relation to research-based knowledge and in considering what more sustainable supervision practices might look like in their own contexts.
Speaker: Lotta Tikkanen is a University Lecturer at the Centre for University Teaching and Learning (HYPE), University of Helsinki.
