Studium Generale: Mind-weaving – making knowledge in the real world

Welcome to a discussion about how knowledge is created through interaction, and the part played by academics in our increasingly fragmented world.

Date: 3 November 2026

Time: 16:00 - 18:00

Venue: Umeå Institute of Design

Language: English

Organiser: SLU University Library

Co-organiser: Umeå Institute of Design (Umeå University)

Location: Umeå

Does academia need different approaches to develop a relevant understanding of what knowledge is? Does academia have a responsibility to take a stand, or does political engagement risk jeopardising academic independence? In this workshop, we will share inspiring examples and reflect on these issues together.

  • The library will be serving fika (coffee/tea and biscuits).
  • Studium Generale is open to students and staff at SLU.
  • No advance registration is required.

Mindweaving is a series of discussions on how knowledge is created in a fragmented world. Together, we reflect on different academic approaches and ideas about the roles of students and researchers. You can find all the events on the library’s website: Studium Generale in the library’s calendar.
