The Research Data Lifecycle is an overview of the process of Planning, Collecting, Processing, Analysing, Archiving, and Sharing data. In this course, you will learn best practices for each stage of this process, in line with FAIR data principles. We will discuss general advice on planning field data collection, cleaning data, keeping good metadata (the info about what your data is about), keeping your code tidy, tools like GitHub for version control and collaboration, and how to archive and publish data. These skills will be useful for anyone handling data during their PhD.

The course introduces all aspects of the research process, from question formulation to data collection, processing, analysis, and finally data sharing and archiving. The goal of the course is for students to critically evaluate decisions at all stages of the research process to ensure their studies and data are well designed, replicable, sharable, and well documented.
